They are brand new never used in factory packaging from the late 70's - 80's. There was a speck or two of dust or debris that got under the plastic packaging and a musty vintage smell from 40 years of storage ( They were found in a basement at a local estate sale ) with that being said I'm sure you could air them out or wash them after opening to get rid of the smell.
